Travel & Service Programs > About
Our Travel and Service Programs partner with domestic and international YMCA's to help connect participants to communities and people worldwide. The programs are educational travel experiences that focus on service learning, cultural understanding, and leadership development. The programs are designed to meet the critical needs and challenges of teenagers today by supporting, guiding and challenging young people as they learn skills to become healthy, competent and caring adults.
The Travel and Service Programs offers three programs for participants finishing the 9th and 10th grade:
A 28 day bicycle touring program in Northern Vermont and the Adirondacks in update New York. Participants will bike 280 miles, complete 30-40 hours of service, and participate in adventure activities like white water rafting and hiking.
A 28 day leadership program located in Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Tetons, and Gallatin National Forest. Participants will explore three major wilderness areas, complete 40-50 hours of service, and participate in adventure activities like white water rafting and rock climbing.
A 36 day leadership program located in one of ten international locations. Participants will complete 40-50 hours of service, homestay with a local family, and develop their leadership skills as they explore a new culture.
