Berkshire Outdoor Center > Programs > Schools
Our programs are designed to strengthen relationships between individual students, between students and teachers, between guests and staff, and between people and the environment. Each activity is designed to reflect specific objectives from MA, CT and NY State curriculum frameworks.
All programs can be customized.
Henry Hudson School buses at Berkshire Outdoor Center
These educational programs for schools, colleges, youth groups and adult groups emphasize teamwork, cooperation, communication and leadership skills, through physical, mental and emotional challenges and risk-taking. These activities take place in a cooperative, community environment and emphasize the relationship between self and the group.
Typically, our Leadership Development programs incorporate high ropes or Alpine Tower, teambuilding, low ropes activities, and some recreational adventure activities (giving students time to debrief themselves and process their intense sessions). We have specifically designed packages that can be tailored by you as much or as little as you need.
Belmont Hill School boys participate in High Ropes
Educational programs for schools that provide hands-on nature lessons, opportunities to reinforce lessons learned in the classroom and an appreciation for the environment, as well as recreational water and land-based activities.
Typically, our Outdoor Education incorporates some various ecology classes, such as beaver ecology, forest ecology, animal ecology and pond ecology. Our bog walk is a very interesting component newly added to the program. We usually also blend in teambuilding, low ropes activities and some recreational adventure activities. We can design the package, or you can!
Our environmental education participants usually range from 3rd to 8th grade. Our staff are trained to manipulate to match the age and academic level of all participants.
All of our activities have been matched with the curriculum frameworks of MA, CT and NY State. Each of the activities satisfies objectives within these curricula.
Blueberry Hill School students participate in Pond Ecology
Every school group is unique. With this option schools can mix and match activities to fit the particular needs of their group. You can do as much or as little of our programming as you wish. Schools have created programs for: end-of-the year field days, sports camps, staff retreats and student activity retreats.
