Work Weekend

Return to camp for a weekend of service and fun.

April 7-9, 2017

Work Weekends will be limited in size. We are only accepting a maximum of 150 guests (8 years old and up).

Registration

IMG_4657_1___2.jpgBerkshire Outdoor Center - the year-round component of Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA - hosts a Spring Work Weekend in April. Free to Alumni and invited friends, Work Weekend is an opportunity to give back through community service projects. Some projects are at Camp Becket, some at Chimney Corners Camp, some at Becket Day Camp at Lane Farm. Much of the work we do at Work Weekend is designed to prepare our sites for the seasons ahead, maintain buildings, enhance our programs and provide general upkeep of the facility.

This is a weekend for the whole family. Arrive Friday night for a buffet dinner and an evening of family fun. Work projects begin just after breakfast on Saturday morning. Children ages 8-17 will work with Berkshire Outdoor Center staff on age-appropriate projects with a few games thrown in. We ask that families do not bring children under the age of 8 to this event. Adults sign up for their own projects. We have projects of varying skill levels for everyone wishing to attend. Past projects have included porch/stair building, trail maintenance, roofing projects, small-scale renovation of camp buildings, painting, landscaping, planting & raking and firewood splitting. The weekend ends with lunch on Sunday.

Work Weekend is a two day event and we are asking all participants to stay for the entire weekend. If you cannot attend either Saturday or Sunday, please consider giving up your spot for a family who can attend the entire weekend, and perhaps register for another work weekend when you have more free time. We do accept day registrations without housing if you can only attend on Saturday.

Lodging and Meals

Work Weekend accommodation is in the Chimney Corners Camp Lodges. Please bring your own linens/sleeping bags, pillows & towels. All meals will be served in the Chimney Corners Dining Hall. Friday dinner is buffet style and is served beginning at 6:30 pm. If you will be arriving later than 8 pm, please arrange to have dinner prior to your arrival.IMG_4644_1___2.jpg

Attendance by Teens

Teens who attend Work Weekend must be accompanied by their own parent or guardian. While in work projects, teens are supervised by Berkshire Outdoor Center staff. Overnight, and between work projects, the parent or guardian is entirely responsible for supervision. Teens are not permitted to drive themselves to/from this event.

Registering children who are not part of your immediate family

We are no longer accepting participants under the age of 18 unless they are attending with immediate family. This means that to attend Work Weekend, all children must attend with adults from their family. They cannot attend with friends.

This popular weekend fills quickly! We recommend registering more than 4 weeks prior to the event.
