WEDDING OPTIONS

Booking a rustic wedding with Berkshire Outdoor Center is easy. Our Coordinators will walk you through all the steps between choosing our gorgeous venue and saying "I do."

Rates

Our wedding option rates are made up of three components:

  • A Flat Rate Facility Rental
  • Meals and Accommodation charged a la carte, per person
  • A Minimum Charge for the Exclusive Use event

This simply means that to have a wedding at Berkshire Outdoor Center, there is a certain amount you will be required to spend, and how you get to that amount will depend on your a la carte selections for your guests.

Rate Inclusions & Exclusions

Our rates include:

  • taxes and gratuities
  • programs, activities, equipment usage
  • chinaware, silverware, glassware, table linens

Our rates do not include:

  • alcohol
  • flowers
  • table decorations (bonbonnieres, name cards & center pieces etc)
  • room decorations (lights, streamers, arches etc)
  • wedding cake
  • photography, music, DJ
  • event styling
  • wedding insurance
  • optional extras that are available, such as shuttle transportation and bed linen service

Components of the Wedding

There are various components to a rustic wedding at Berkshire Outdoor Center:

The Ceremony

The ceremony can be held indoors or outdoors. It can take place in our chapel-by-the-lake, our amphitheater, our beautiful dining hall, or another of our gorgeous indoor spaces.

Use of the chapel or an indoor space is included in your flat rate facility rental. The ceremony spaces will be clean and presented to you, as is. We are able to help rearrange chairs, but any decorations or other event styling will be up to you. We will request that there is no permanent damage or modifications made to the space. Our facilities are rustic, and that is part of the charm of a camp wedding.

The Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is traditionally the night before the wedding. It can be held in our gorgeous Becket Library, built in 1931, one of our camp dining halls, or outdoors around the barbecue. It can be a basic cookout or a lavish 5 star feast - or, of course, something in between. Couples can choose from our meal options, and then tailor those meal options in consultation with our Food Service Directors.

Some couples prefer a rehearsal dinner that includes all of their on-site guests the night before the wedding. Other couples prefer a smaller, more exclusive affair that is for immediate family members, bridal party and close friends only. We can provide a rehearsal dinner for either, and can simultaneously provide another meal for your other guests if you prefer the second, more exclusive option. Rates are charged per person and depend on the level of service that you prefer.

Cocktail Hour

Most couples opt for a cocktail hour between the ceremony and the reception, and this is certainly an option. We can provide the space and the hors d'oeuvres, but you must provide your own vendor to dispense any alcohol. We are able to store the alcohol for you but will be unable to purchase, sell, pour or otherwise provide or distribute the alcohol. Cocktail rates are charged per person and depend on the level of service that you prefer.

The Reception

We can host up to 350 guests at a reception dinner in one of our beautiful dining halls at either camp.

The reception is super-tailorable and we will introduce you to our Food Service Directors who will walk you through the process. Generally, you can get a good idea of meal service options here. The reception dinner is typically served buffet style, although some couples prefer to explore the options of family style and plated/served meals. There are additional charges for these second and third options.

The reception is typically held in our Dining Hall, which will be set up by our staff: setting tables and preparing the table layout according to your preference. Any additional decorating, beyond setting the tables, would be up to your event stylist and/or family and friends.

The tailorable meal will usually fall into one of two categories - 4 star or 5 star, which will determine the per person meal price. You can review these rates on our rates page.

After dinner, guests can dance the night away, and the structure of the evening program is completely at your discretion. Our staff will simply clean away the tables and give you the space. The night will end at 1:00 AM (or before) and our quiet hours will commence at 1:30 AM.

The Weekend - Program and Accommodation

This is undoubtedly the best part of having your wedding at a historic camp in the Berkshires - spending the night with your family and friends, sitting around the campfire, dancing in the dining hall on a starlit evening. All day, you and your guests can be canoeing, kayaking, hiking or playing games, climbing on our challenge courses and climbing towers, catching frogs or searching for beavers in our beaver meadows. There's early morning swimming, supervised by our ARC lifeguards, or take a chance fishing in one of our ponds. Having everyone together, for more than just an afternoon, is a fabulous way to create very special memories of your wedding.

Our camp is rustic. We have dorm-style lodges at our Chimney Corners Campus, but other than this our cabins are rustic and have no electricity. Any activities must be pre-approved, and all camp activities will be scheduled with you in advance, staffed with our professional staff, utilize our appropriate equipment, and will be provided free of charge - included in your rates.

Activities might include:

  • Canoeing/kayaking
  • Swimming/Rope Swing
  • High Ropes/Alpine Tower/Climbing
  • Guided Nature Hikes
  • Archery
  • Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Tennis
  • Corn Hole, Bocce and other Lawn Games
  • Other activities as requested

Winter Weddings might include:

  • Cross-Country Skiing
  • Snowshoeing
  • Ice Skating
  • Ice Fishing
  • Alpine Tower/Climbing

Accommodation is charged per person. The per person rate does not include bed linens - most people bring their own. However, if you would like to provide bed linens for your guests, additional rates apply. Some people prefer to stay in a regular hotel or Air BnB elsewhere nearby. We are happy to provide transportation, see below.

Transportation

Transportation may be arranged to shuttle guests to local hotels and Air BnB. While there is an additional charge, it is an affordable option that allows your guests to enjoy themselves without the worry of driving afterwards. Please keep in mind that there are no taxis, there is no Uber and there is certainly no bus or train. We can book you a big bus, or we can use vans to get your guests from point A to point B.

We would require pre-scheduled departure and pick up times for guests, as the distances can be great. We would recommend (for example) departures on the hour from central Berkshires hotels up to 1 hour prior to your ceremony, and departures on the hour from camp, beginning with the first guests you anticipate wanting to head home. For example:

Depart from central Berkshires Hotels:

  • 12:00 PM
  • 1:00 PM
  • 2:00 PM

Depart from camp:

  • 10:00 PM
  • 11:00 PM
  • 12:00 AM
  • 1:00 AM

All of these options are tailorable.

Other Variations

We can host you for any or all of these components. And the best part is, we can tailor any of them to suit your specific taste. For example, we have had couples canoe to their ceremony. We have hosted outdoor cookout rehearsal dinners. We can provide transportation to other venues in the Berkshires for different components of your wedding. We've had wedding guests camp in their own tents on Moose Field.

Exclusive Use Requirement

Weddings are great and we love them, but they don't really mix well with the other types of groups that we work with. Typically, a wedding is a loud celebration that continues late into the evening. For this reason, we require that couples book out the entire camp for their event, and the expenses associated with that are included in our rates and minimum charges.
