Meet our 2017 Staff!

2017 Staff Value Statement: Berkshire Happy camp values fairness, respect, professionalism and positivity. We will support one another through an inclusive, purposeful program to learn, discover and experience new adventures. Our community will communicate effectively to build a safe and holistic atmosphere.

Liz Just (Camp Director) started working at Berkshire Outdoor Center in September 2016. She is a native Wisconsinite who grew up just outside of Madison. She attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and earned a degree in Environmental Education and Sustainability Studies. Her career has taken her across the country guiding wilderness expeditions and most recently helping to launch and grow a new non-profit in Minneapolis, Minnesota before coming to Berkshire Outdoor Center. Liz is also a world traveler and is excited to direct a program that promotes cultural exchanges. Outside of work she loves spontaneous adventuring, she can't go a day without talking about her best friend, she enjoys getting creative in the kitchen, prefers sunrise to sunset, and her sleeping bag feels like home. She is thrilled to be part of Berkshire Happy Camp this summer.

Sammy Lewis started working for Berkshire Outdoor Center in the summer of 2015 but has spent many summers in the Berkshires as a camper at BCCYMCA’s Chimney Corners Camp. She was born in New York City but was raised in the suburbs of Boston. Holding a Bachelor's degree in History from Keene State College in New Hampshire Sammy couldn't be more excited for the summer ahead. This is Sammy’s second summer working with Berkshire Happy Camp. Anticipating fun days spent under the summer sun (and occasionally the rain) she can't wait for hours by the lake, hikes through the woods and s’mores by the fire.

Luke Robinson was born in Auckland New Zealand, he has a passion for travel and education which has lead him all over the world. He has worked as an outdoor instructor in New Zealand since 2011 and has recently gained a Bachelor of Education from the University of Auckland. This year he journeyed to the Berkshires of Massachusetts to experience diverse students and further his professional practice. Luke is most excited when he is outside facing a challenge. He loves learning and teaching with others, being involved in physical activities and playing music. He cannot wait to meet and learn about the varied students involved with Happy Camp.

Eimear Ní Dhúnaigh is a native of Ireland. She is currently undertaking a Bachelors degree in Education, Irish and Business studies. She also has a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language. Eimear enjoys playing Gaelic football, soccer and most sports. After years of experience working in Irish summer camps, Eimear looks forward to experiencing her first year at Berkshire Outdoor Center exploring the American summer camp culture.

Jurij Muhic started working for Berkshire Outdoor Center in the spring of 2016 as an instructor and as a Becket Day Camp Counselor. Jurij was born and raised in Slovenia, Europe. In Slovenia, Jurij worked as a Day Camp counselor. In 2015 he graduated with a degree in Tourism and Gastronomy from a College in Austria. Jurij loves traveling, meeting new people, learning other languages and doing outdoors stuff. He has traveled, hiked and camped with his brother and father since he was a child. Jurij is a team player growing up with two brothers and one sister. He is very excited to meet the participants and get Berkshire Happy Camp started.

Asher Dwen has journeyed all the way from Aotearoa (New Zealand) to work at Berkshire Outdoor Center. She is a keen traveler and loves working alongside a diverse group of people. She has been working in the outdoor instructing scene for the last four years while gaining her qualifications in a Bachelor of Applied Social Work. Asher is passionate about encouraging people to be the best person they can be while challenging and getting them outside of their comfort zone. She is most excited to meet all the Happy Campers and take them on epic field trips to New York and Boston!

Domi Borowiec is from Poland where she studied cultural anthropology and ethnology. She is specifically interested in pop-culture but her hobbies also include singing in the shower and watching the rain falling. Two years ago participating in the cultural exchange program, Domi joined BCCYMCA's Chimney Corners Camp. As an international staff member, she dived right into her culturally immersive experience, surrounded by passionate people who made it life-changing for her. Now her ultimate goal is to take the responsibility and help Happy Campers have incredible fun and life-lesson experiences in a respectful, caring and safe environment.
