DISHWASHER HOUSEKEEPER

Located in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts, Berkshire Outdoor Center operates a year-round outdoor education program. Our operation serves around 12,000 youth and adults from around New England and beyond, the majority being from Boston and New York City areas. Typical groups include schools, youth groups, community organizations, corporate groups and other retreats and conferences. We also run Family Camps and Women's Wellness Weekends.

Seasonal Employment Options

Because we run all year long, we are always looking for great staff. Staff work with us from as little as a few weekends to as much as several years.

Fall Season

Commences between August 15-30

Ends between October 15-30

Winter Season

Commences between January 1-7

Ends between March 15-30

Spring Season

Commences between April 1-15

Ends between June 15-30

All seasons commence with one week of staff training.

Staff may commence or end work outside of official season dates.

Job Description

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Seasonal)

Reports to: BOC Program Coordinator

General Function: The BOC Dishwasher & Housekeeper is responsible for washing all dishes, serving utensils and silverware, and keeping the dish room clean as assigned. Dishwasher & Housekeepers are also responsible for sweeping and mopping dining room and lodges as assigned. Dishwasher & Housekeepers are also responsible for wiping down tables and resetting the dining hall at the end of each meal.

Qualifications Requirements

The Dishwasher and Housekeeper must:

1. Have a commitment to the mission and vision of BCCYMCA and the goals of Berkshire Outdoor Center.

2. Have the capability and knowhow to operate a commercial dishwasher in either BOC location

3. Have the capacity and knowhow to sweep and mop and operate basic cleaning equipment.

4. Have the desire to perform routine cleaning and dish duty enthusiastically, safely, quickly and effectively.

5. Have the ability to respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies.

6. Have the willingness to wear closed-toed, non-slip shoes, as well as socks, at all times whilst on duty

Principle Responsibilities

1. Wash dishes, silverware and other items using a commercial dishwasher.

2. Remove trash and compost from the dining hall

3. Clean the dishwasher and dishroom to sanitary standards as assigned

4. Sweep and mop the dining hall

5. Wipe down tables, set up and break down tables, reset tables as assigned

6. Sweep, mop and dust lodges (excluding bathrooms) and their furnishings, as assigned

7. Respond to all guest inquiries

8. Ensure security of guest rooms

9. Clean interior windows as assigned

10. Remove basic trash from lodges as assigned

11. Sort, wash, fold and store laundry as assigned

12. Make beds and collect linens as assigned (very occasional)

13. Inspect and turn mattresses frequently

14. Other occasional cleaning as assigned

Further Responsibilities

1. Maintain a guest focus while performing duties

2. Function as an effective team member; be flexible with schedule changes and customer needs

3. Serve as a senior mentor (and role model) to new Dishwasher and Housekeepers

4. Assist in training other staff in areas of expertise

5. Participate in trainings, meetings and other professional development opportunities as assigned

6. Be responsive to evaluations, participate in review & development

Salary & Benefits

All employees earn $10-$12 per hour, up to 40 hours per week. Schedule will change weekly based on group bookings.

2. INTERVIEW

We will contact you for an interview if you satisfy our criteria as an applicant and if we have positions available. We will not contact you if you fail to qualify or if we have filled all positions.

3. FORMAL APPLICATION

We will invite you to formally apply for a position by sending you a link to My Staffing Pro - our third-party employment application vendor.

4. THREE REFERENCES

You must contact 3 References who will complete an online reference form for you. After they submit the reference, we will contact them to verify.

5. IDENTITY VERIFICATION

You will not be permitted to work unless you can verify your identity.

You must be willing and able to bring original forms of ID as listed on page 9 of the USCIS I-9 , in person on your first day of employment.

You can use any combination as listed on page 9 of the USCIS I-9 , but typical ID combinations include:

- USA Passport

- Foreign Passport AND Unexpired, Endorsed I-94

- Driver's License AND Social Security Card

- Driver's License AND Birth Certificate

5. PAYROLL DIRECT DEPOSIT

We only pay via direct deposit. We do not issue payroll checks or pay in cash.

You will need to provide us with either a voided check, OR:

- Bank Routing Number

- Bank Account Number

Please bring these numbers with you on your first day of employment. If you do not have these details, we will issue you with a Rapid Pay Card.
